Why Is
Smoke-Free Important?
Smoke-free environments are not about smokers versus
non-smokers. People who use tobacco are welcome everywhere – it’s their
secondhand smoke that is not. Each year, over 500 non-smoking Iowans die
from illnesses and disease related to exposure to second-hand smoke.
Despite evidence that smoke-free environments protect
the health of workers, children and the general public, Iowa state law prohibits
cities and counties from passing local smoke-free ordinances.
