Health, youth service, and education professionals from Johnson County are working together to offer several tobacco control and cessation programs.

Smokin' Ads for The Small Screen is a counter-media contest for junior high, high school,  and 18-24 year olds. The goal of this project is to involve youth in the creation of TV commercials against tobacco use and smoking. Winning entries will receive monetary prizes and recognition.

Rules

1. Students  must  be currently attending any junior or senior high school, university or college in Johnson County.                                         

2. Content must be acceptable for commercial television.

3. The three age categories are 7th-8th grade, 9th-12th grade, and 18-24 year olds.

4. Each entry must be 30 seconds in length. Any format is acceptable (VHS< 8mm, DV, etc).

5. Register online or print a registration form and submit it with your tape. The form may be photocopied. All forms must have an entrants social security number and signature (if under 18, must be signed by a parent or legal guardian).  Register Here!! Mailing information is listed below.   

6. Each tape must be labeled with the entrant's name(s), school name, and the name and address of a contact person. All entries must be received by June 6th, 2003.

7. Entries will not be returned, so please do not send us master tapes.

Prizes

1. All entries will be shown at an honorary film festival on Friday, June 22nd, 2003. The location and time will be send to all entrants at a later date.

2. The top three entries in each category will receive: 1st-$300, 2nd-$200, 3rd-$100. There will also be a prize awarded for the "Student's Choice Award".

3. Entrants may be honored on local television and/or radio stations and newspapers.
